Race Day Checklist for HYROX Beginners

Your first HYROX is exciting, nerve-wracking and, if you are not organised, weirdly easy to sabotage before you even start. Forgetting a key piece of kit or turning up underfuelled can undo weeks of good training. This simple race day checklist keeps the basics covered so you can focus on the part that matters: racing.

The night before

  • Lay out your full race kit so nothing is a last-minute scramble.
  • Eat a familiar, carbohydrate-focused dinner at a normal time.
  • Charge your watch or any device you plan to race with.
  • Check your start time, wave and travel plan to the venue.
  • Get to bed early, even if nerves make sleep tricky.

What to pack in your bag

  • Race shoes plus a spare pair of socks.
  • Shorts, top and any layers for warming up.
  • Water bottle and your electrolytes.
  • A small pre-race snack you have used in training.
  • Chalk or grips if you use them for the stations.
  • A towel and dry clothes for afterwards.
  • Your race confirmation, ID and any wristband or bib details.

Race morning

  • Eat breakfast two to three hours before your start.
  • Keep sipping water and electrolytes, do not leave hydration to the last minute.
  • Arrive early enough to find parking, registration and bag drop without rushing.
  • Walk the venue if you can, so you know where the Roxzone and stations are.
  • Do a proper warm up rather than treating it as optional.

In the final minutes

  • Use the toilet before you head to your start pen.
  • Remind yourself of your pacing plan: start controlled, build later.
  • Take a breath and enjoy it. You have done the work to be here.
